HERE is your copy of the Scotts Valley Senior Life Association (SVSLA) 2020 year-end Newsletter.  During this year's unusual period of social isolation, we hope you've enjoyed our regular SENIOR LIFE ONLINE (Zoom) meetings as a way to hear from and talk with a variety of local leaders as well as chat with your neighbors.  We're delighted to have served many more senior citizens this year and observe the number of our participants double.  At this time of year, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to SVSLA to help us to continue to sponsor educational and enriching activities for senior citizens in our community.

SENIOR LIFE ONLINE Connecting Seniors

to stay informed and combat social isolation

Scotts Valley Senior Life Association (SVSLA) launched our well-received weekly SENIOR LIFE ONLINE (Zoom) meeting this year to offer local seniors a venue to connect with each other and local leaders during this period of social isolation when SVSLA could not hold our "in-person" events.  Even if SENIOR LIFE ONLINE is only a virtual gathering, it is a great thing to do because most of us are tired of limited social activity, particularly when we live alone.

And for prospective participants who are unfamiliar with the Zoom video conferencing application, SVSLA offered one-on-one help with getting started using Zoom.

Initially, SENIOR LIFE ONLINE provided senior citizens an opportunity to share their thoughts with other local friends about coping with two life-changing events, COVID-19 and the CRZ wildfire, including the mandatory evacuation in August, as well as other concerns.  Almost all SENIOR LIFE ONLINE meetings also featured a local leader who spoke about his or her area of expertise and with whom the meeting participants could ask questions and interact.  SENIOR LIFE ONLINE meetings have been quite educational and lively.

SENIOR LIFE ONLINE speakers have included:  Greg Pepping, Danny Reber, Ross Eric Gibson (video of his history presentation), Supervisor Bruce McPherson, Dr. Terry Hollenbeck, Gail Pellerin, Dr. John MacMillan (his slides on COVID-19), and others, plus subjects like Genealogy and Estate Planning (video of Attorney Shelli Strahle's presentation), and, of course our annual “Mayor’s State Of the City” address, which for the first time this year had to be a virtual meeting.

If you missed a SENIOR LIFE ONLINE meeting, visit our website to view its video recording or handout.  Our local news media outlets did a superb job of promoting SENIOR LIFE ONLINE in both print and digital platforms. We're glad we reached so many seniors with this educational program.  In fact, SENIOR LIFE ONLINE has become so popular that SVSLA's followers have doubled in number recently.

SENIOR LIFE ONLINE is recessing during December and will resume again in the new year.  Please plan on joining us at 4 pm on January 4, 2021, the Monday right after New Year's Day.  Check the SENIOR LIFE ONLINE schedule for upcoming speakers.  Invite a friend to our next SENIOR LIFE ONLINE meeting.  We look forward to seeing you there.
