Scotts Valley Mayor's State of the City Address

Hear about the future of our city. At this popular annual event, Scotts Valley Mayor Jim Reed, city council members, and other city officials will discuss this year’s fiscal sustainability initiatives, long-term community planning efforts, town center updates, and city-wide development activities.

Get your questions answered by our city officials including: Mayor Jim Reed, Superintendent of Scotts Valley Unified School District Tanya Krause, Scotts Valley Water District General Manager Piret Harmon, Police Chief Steve Walpole, Fire Chief Steve Kovacs, and Community Development Director Taylor Bateman.

Sponsored by SVSLA, this free presentation is from 1 – 3 p.m. with a reception following with snacks and beverages.

RSVP to (831) 438-1000 for best seats. Drop-ins always welcome on a space available basis.

Thoughts from the President's desk

by Dave Hodgin, SVSLA President

important resources designed for seniors My mailbox seems to receive a couple solicitations a day. Likely you too get more “junk” mail than you wish. Amazing all the folks out there that feel they should have some of our money. Still, I must accept that they are just like our Scotts Valley Senior Life Association, dependent on “the kindness of strangers” (Blanche Dubois in the play Streetcar Named Desire).

Of course, most of our donors are friends like you who understand the value of the work we do and appreciate that we have no significant overhead: no paid office, no employees, just volunteers. This means virtually every dollar our supporters contribute to SVSLA is used in service to our local senior citizens. That is quite different than most of the famous charities with overhead that eats up a significant portion of donations received, including salaries in the several hundred thousand dollar range (Easter Seals’ highest paid official receives $838,901 annually).

I hope you will choose to include SVSLA in your charitable giving. We promise to keep costs low and service high, using your donations as efficiently as possible. We prefer checks sent to our P. O. Box 66438, Scotts Valley, CA 95067-6438. However contributing on our website with a credit card is easier for some at http://scottsvalleyseniorlife.org/donate/.

Please join us at our next event for local seniors. It will be a pleasure to greet you in person. Until then, please know SVSLA greatly appreciates your financial support of our activities and hope you choose to continue doing so.

Best wishes,

Dave Hodgin
