Read what senior citizens who have benefited from Scotts Valley Senior Life Association are saying about us.

Scotts Valley is blessed to have the support of Scotts Valley Senior Life Association (SVSLA) providing a wide variety of important and valuable information for the community. The annual State of the City brings leaders from all phases of local government, including Police, Fire, Water, City Manager and City Council, together to share information and answer questions. This is the only opportunity of its kind and wonderful to be able to connect with leaders and with one another. SVSLA provides a wide variety of important and pertinent information from tips on living trusts, wills and estate law, home safety, historical information, truth about COVID-19 and much more. I’ve attended many of the programs and always found the speakers knowledgeable, interesting and engaging.

I’ve been close to Scotts Valley Senior Life Association (SVSLA) since the beginning. I know of the many hours that SVSLA spent making decisions on everything like where the donated money could be best spent to meet the needs for seniors of Scotts Valley. Over the years they successfully planned many live programs that were educational and/or interesting for this area.

However, I was astounded with the quick thinking move into online Zoom meeting format that SVSLA made by introducing “Senior Life Online.” This organization offered beginners instruction for Zoom by designing classes and giving personal help. The regularly scheduled Zoom presentations were (and are) carefully planned For example, I noted that an upcoming Zoom presentation was about the Santa Cruz County Animal shelter and local wild life. Even though I do not currently have any furry friends living with me, I decided to watch just to see what was being done for animals in my area. I spent the next hour glued to the Zoom meeting! The speaker was so well informed that I didn’t want to miss a bit.

The web site is also excellent, easy to use and gives referral to some past Zoom meetings. Thanks and congratulations to SVSLA on the way you have always worked and for the amazing handling of the abrupt changes necessary for the pandemic.

I’ve attended the Scotts Valley Senior Life Association’s “Senior Life Online” Zoom programs on Monday afternoon several times since learning of it through the Scotts Valley Senior Center newsletter, and George Haas’ offer of Zoom training.

I’ve always enjoyed and learned from the variety of Senior Life Online presentations I attended. My recent favorite was February 15th, 2021, with Dr. Emily Miller, Veterinarian at the Scotts Valley Veterinary Clinic. She offered important information on many dog/cat related issues and generously answered the many participants questions in relatable detail.

I look forward to the upcoming SPCA presentation in April. My appreciation to those who make these informative and interesting Zoom presentations possible!

During my years as Chairman of the Spring Lakes Park Management Committee in Scotts Valley, I witnessed Scotts Valley Senior Life Association (SVSLA) directly benefit our Park residents in several different ways. For immediate, potentially life-saving support, SVSLA provided a grant with which we purchased an automated defibrillator (AED) for our club house. As part of its educational program, SVSLA sponsored an excellent presentation here on sleep disorders, given by a board-certified neurologist, Stanford-trained in sleep medicine. They also provided a method for Park residents to make a tax-deductible contribution to a fund which will assist Park residents who are in need of financial support to pay a large Park assessment.

I’m extremely impressed with SVSLA, a local organization very willing to find new and different ways to enhance the health and well-being of our community’s seniors.

Don and I regularly enjoyed the Scotts Valley Senior Life Association Community Dine Out Program because it gave us another opportunity to get to know and enjoy other residents and have a lovely dinner out. The food was good and we always had a lovely time in this friendly community setting.

Scotts Valley Senior Life Association (SVSLA) works in many ways to enable community building among seniors in our community. One example is the new stove and dishwasher SVSLA donated to Montevalle for the Montevalle Lodge where groups of seniors come to socialize. The dishwasher and stove were recently used in the preparation of a beautiful Thanksgiving community dinner for local seniors to enjoy.

I look forward to attending Scotts Valley Senior Life Association–sponsored educational presentations to learn about civic, health, and financial topics relevant to senior citizens like myself. I always come away with new information to use to improve my situation. The expert presenters are local professionals who can answer my questions as well as explain where I can obtain further information. These presentations also foster a sense of community because audience members share the same concerns.

Scotts Valley Senior Life Association provides excellent support to the seniors of Scotts Valley in the form of annual “State of the City” addresses, volunteer opportunities, science-based presentations on nutrition, health, and safety, grants to facilities that cater to senior citizens, and more. They keep us aware of important issues. I personally appreciate hearing from our Mayors and department heads at the well-attended “State of the City” addresses.
